USCF Release Paths

Utah State Correctional Facility in Salt Lake City is operated by the Utah Department of Corrections. It holds sentenced state prisoners, not Duchesne County pretrial detainees merely awaiting trial. UDC's release-day material says almost all state paroles and releases are processed at USCF. That practice reaches many prisoners housed in contract county jails. A move from Duchesne County Jail to USCF near a Board date is still state custody, not a local release to the community.

A person processed at USCF may enter parole under UDC Adult Probation and Parole, move to a Community Correctional Center, or reach sentence expiration and discharge without supervision. Parole means release from confinement while legal supervision continues. Discharge means the sentence or supervision authority has ended according to the controlling record. The destination and status fields matter as much as the date.

Confirm a USCF Release

Begin at the UDC Offender Search. Use the offender number when known because it reduces name collisions. Otherwise, the official form accepts a first and last name with at least one letter in each field. Compare all identity details and read the exact status and location labels. UDC expressly limits this search to people currently under its supervision, including incarceration, felony probation, and parole.

Then search the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole hearing and decision system by offender number or name. Read decisions from oldest to newest, with special weight on the latest order. A granted parole date is planned authority, not proof that USCF completed the release. A later rescission, modification, disciplinary event, court order, or detainer can change the outcome.

1. Search UDC and record the exact status, location, and date labels.
2. Open the newest Board decision and review later modifications.
3. Distinguish parole from full sentence discharge.
4. When the date has passed, confirm actual processing with UDC.
5. Use a focused UDC GRAMA request if the public search no longer returns a fully discharged person.

USCF Offender Search Fields

UDC public information identifies releasable facts that may include legal status, assigned location, sentence information, Board hearing date, sentencing court and case, a prison photograph, and the label “Parole/Expiration Date.” Reproduce only the labels displayed on the live record. Do not turn a field into a promise of a fixed projected date. Utah uses indeterminate sentences for most prison commitments, so the Board's action and later record history shape the actual release.

UDC publishes a specific release-processing building at USCF. Family members should rely on release paperwork and current UDC instructions before arranging a pickup. The published routine says release and parole processing normally occurs on Tuesdays. That schedule does not turn every future Board date into a guaranteed event, and it must not be projected onto local Duchesne County Jail releases.

People paroling to a Community Correctional Center are transported by UDC. For a person without an arranged private ride, a release-team member or volunteer may provide transport to a nearby UTA TRAX station after releases for those with rides. The guidance describes state-prison logistics only. It does not promise a ride, a precise release hour, or service from the Duchesne County Jail.

USCF Board Release Decisions

The Utah Board of Pardons and Parole decides whether and when eligible prisoners leave before sentence expiration. Its combined search accepts first and last name, offender number, or a date range. Results can include upcoming hearings and prior decisions. Known aliases may be included in person matching. An original hearing is the first substantive release review, while a rehearing sets another future consideration rather than current release.

Other labels require care. A rescission hearing can revisit a date before release. A violation or evidentiary hearing concerns alleged conduct after parole and may lead to return to prison or reinstatement. Redetermination, paper review, and special attention can lead to later orders. Always read the resulting document. Since a newer order can replace an older one, the latest signed decision is stronger than a single date copied from an earlier result.

Utah law does not establish one universal rule that each prisoner serves the same percentage. The state's framework combines statutory minimum and maximum terms, Board authority, offense-specific limits, and earned-time rules. A qualifying program credit reduces a Board-ordered date under state law; it does not create a simple public calculator. Exact dates remain subject to the individual record.

USCF Release Records Requests

When the public offender search is incomplete or a discharged person is outside its scope, request the state record from UDC. Do not send that request to the Duchesne County Sheriff merely because a prisoner once occupied a local contract bed. Ask UDC for the offender movement and release record, actual release date, release type, destination, supervision status, and termination or discharge status. Identify the UDC number, full name, and relevant date range.

The Board's decision portal is useful for historic proof. Its expanded self-service decisions may include an order confirming completion of parole. If the needed order is absent, a focused Board or UDC GRAMA request can seek it. Utah public-record law permits agencies to redact protected security, medical, victim, juvenile, and personal information. A limited response does not erase the public facts that can lawfully be separated from protected material.

At USCF, the next destination still matters. A Community Correctional Center is a structured state placement. Parole in the community carries AP&P supervision. Sentence expiration may end confinement without supervision, depending on the record. Another prison location means custody continued. Record the source, date checked, exact wording, and destination before drawing a conclusion.
