CUCF Release and Movement Paths

Central Utah Correctional Facility is operated by UDC in Gunnison. It serves the state prison system, including people sentenced from Duchesne County, but it is not a Duchesne County facility. A local court case may explain the sentence that placed someone under UDC authority. From that point, the UDC offender record and Utah Board of Pardons and Parole decisions control public release research.

A CUCF record can show confinement in Gunnison while a Board decision sets a future parole or expiration event. UDC's general release guidance says almost all state releases are processed through Utah State Correctional Facility in Salt Lake City. Thus movement from CUCF to USCF near a release date can be an internal state transfer. It should not be reported as community release until UDC confirms the next status.

Confirm a CUCF Release

Start with the UDC Offender Search. A UDC number is the best key when available. A name search requires at least one letter of the first and last name. Compare identifiers before relying on a result, then record the exact assigned location, supervision, legal status, and date labels. The search covers only people currently under UDC supervision, which includes incarceration, felony probation, and parole.

Next use the Board hearing and decision search. A decision may show hearing type, action, decision date, a parole or review date, conditions, and later changes. Read every later order. An original hearing begins the substantive review. A rehearing means another future review. A rescission process may remove an approved date before the person leaves prison.

1. Match the correct person in UDC's current-supervision search.
2. Note whether the location is CUCF, USCF, another prison, parole, or an AP&P office.
3. Open the latest Board decision and any later modification.
4. When the scheduled date passes, verify actual processing with UDC.
5. Seek UDC or Board records if a fully discharged person is no longer searchable.

CUCF Hearing Release Records

The Board's hearing and decision portal supports a person search by first and last name or offender number, as well as date-range queries. Known aliases can be part of name matching. Search results combine the schedule and published decisions. That makes the portal useful both before an event and after the Board issues an order.

The public hearing schedule has a specific Gunnison layer. The Board's live-hearing page states that Gunnison hearings stream on Tuesdays, while Salt Lake hearings stream Monday through Thursday. People at CUCF and some county jail locations can participate online. Since March 17, 2025, the Board says live broadcasts are audio-only for security reasons. A streamed hearing or calendar entry documents a proceeding, not a completed release.

Read the resulting signed order after the hearing. Labels such as redetermination, paper review, and special attention do not carry a single release meaning on their own. A parole violation or evidentiary hearing concerns conduct after parole and can lead to return, reinstatement, or another order.

CUCF Records and Contact

The facility is in Gunnison and is run by the Utah Department of Corrections. The research supplies no verified CUCF street address or direct telephone number for publication, so none is inferred. Current facility contact and visiting information should come from UDC's official prison-operations pages. Release questions should be routed through the statewide offender-search, Board, and UDC records channels instead of the Duchesne Sheriff.

A state release-record request should identify the full name, UDC number, relevant time span, CUCF confinement, movement record, actual release date, release type, destination, and termination or discharge status. Ask for the segregable public parts if some fields are protected. Utah GRAMA allows agencies to withhold security, medical, victim, juvenile, and personal data under the applicable classifications.

Do not send a CUCF state-record request to the Duchesne County Sheriff merely because the sentencing case arose there. The Sheriff's record controls only a prior local booking or contract-jail movement. UDC controls the state-prison episode.

CUCF Release Date Limits

Utah prison terms are generally indeterminate, which means the sentence operates within a statutory minimum-to-maximum range rather than as one fixed release day. The Board conducts release review and may set parole, rehearing, expiration, or another action. Section 77-27-9 also imposes release limits tied to applicable minimum terms and listed offense rules. The statute and the individual Board record must be read together.

UDC earned-time programs can reduce a previously ordered Board date for eligible program completion. The researched rule generally provides a four-month reduction, or eight months for qualifying substance-use programs, subject to statutory eligibility and Board implementation. It is not a free-standing calculator. If the date is too close, only the usable reduction may be approved. Later discipline, a detainer, or a new Board action may change actual release.

Indeterminate sentence

A state prison term expressed within legal minimum and maximum bounds.

Earned time

A qualifying program-based reduction applied to a Board-ordered date.

Detainer

A request or hold from another authority that can affect the next custody step.

Parole

Release from prison while UDC community supervision continues.

Note: Utah research found no universal rule requiring every state prisoner to serve the same fixed percentage.

CUCF Discharge Record Fallback

A parolee may remain in UDC search results because parole is current state supervision. A person whose sentence has fully terminated may no longer appear under the tool's stated scope. That difference makes a no-result ambiguous. Search the Board decision portal for a later termination or completion order, especially since the Board expanded public access to historic decisions in 2025.

If the order is absent, submit a focused Board or UDC GRAMA request. Ask for the newest release-related order, actual movement and release record, and the document that states whether parole or sentence authority ended. A court docket from Duchesne County can corroborate the sentence and case disposition, but it usually cannot show the precise time UDC processed a prison release.

Older records should be described with their source and date. “Not found in UDC's current-supervision search” is accurate. “Never incarcerated” or “not released” is not supported by that result. This wording also prevents a fully discharged person from being mistaken for someone still in prison solely because the public tool changed coverage.

CUCF Release Destination Check

Research Angle T applies to CUCF through Utah's centralized release practice. A person sentenced from Duchesne County can move between a county contract bed, CUCF, and USCF while remaining under one state sentence. Each facility exit ends a physical placement. It does not necessarily end UDC custody. Ask for both the movement destination and the legal status after the move.

When the destination is USCF, check UDC records for later release processing. When the status becomes parole, verify the supervising AP&P office and newest Board order. A Community Correctional Center is a structured placement to which UDC provides transport. A termination or expiration record may establish a different endpoint.
